Mary V Loudon
Before coming to the bar, Mary Loudon worked as a solicitor in Edinburgh for around 25 years, always in litigation and for the last 10 years specialising in family law and child law. She was a partner in an established firm for a number of years. She tutored at Edinburgh University in Civil Advocacy; she was one of the first solicitors to be accredited as a Family Law Mediator; she was an accredited Family Law Specialist and spoke at various conferences on family law. Since coming to the Bar, she has continued to specialise in family law.
She has acted in high value divorces, adoptions (acting for both local authorities and parents), child abductions, actions involving parental rights and responsibilities, actions between cohabitants and adults with incapacity matters. She practices in the Court of Session and appears throughout Scotland in Sheriff Courts. Many cases in which she has been involved are reported.
She gives Opinions on all matters relating to family and child law and on professional negligence issues. She has spoken at various conferences throughout Scotland. Mary has also been appointed to prepare reports for court relating to children.
She finds that one of the most interesting aspects of work in this field is the breadth of law that arises, particularly in divorce actions, ranging from international private law, company law, partnership law and property law.
